Kentucky Standard

Kentucky Standard

The Kentucky Standard was founded on December 15, 1900, by Jack Wilson, who had previously worked at the Nelson County Record. In 1901, the newspaper changed hands when it was acquired by Wallace Brown, the Circuit Clerk of Nelson County, although Wilson continued to contribute as an editor. In 1919, Alfred S. Wathen became the publisher after purchasing a significant number of shares in the company. By 1958, his children took over the management of the newspaper. In 1979, Scripps Howard purchased the Kentucky Standard. The latest ownership change occurred in April 1987 when Landmark Community Newspapers acquired the publication.
