First case of Anthrax discovered in SD heard this year

(Dakota Radio Group News – Pierre, SD) The first confirmed case of Anthrax in South Dakota this year (2024) has been found in a beef cattle herd in Meade County. State Veterinarian Dr. Beth Thompson says herd vaccination, a quick response and veterinary oversight limited the number of affected animals to one calf in a herd of approximately 60 pairs. She says the adult cattle in the herd have been vaccinated within the past year.

Today, Governor Kristi Noem ordered that flags be flown at half-staff statewide from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, August 10th, 2024, in honor of U.S. Army Corporal Robert A. Bartlett. Corporal Bartlett served during World War II, and after engaging in battle with German forces at Saint-Germain-d’Elle, he was declared missing in action. The remains of Corporal Bartlett were accounted for in May of this year and were recently returned to South Dakota for burial.

(KELO.com – Sioux Falls, SD) Sioux Falls police are investigating the death of a young infant. Police Information Officer Sam Clemens says the body was discovered early yesterday morning. Clemens described the child as a full-term infant. He says police aren’t sure how long the baby had been at the recycling center, but an autopsy will be performed.
