Spokane considers comprehensive housing strategy, Prop 1 codificationThe Spokane City Council on Monday began consideration of a package of five ordinances that address the city’s homelessness problem. One, sponsored by Councilmember Michael Cathcart, seeks to revise provisions of Proposition 1, approved by voters by a three-to-one margin in 2023. The measure banned camping within a thousand feet of schools, parks and licensed daycare facilities.

DHS pulls list of 'noncompliant jurisdictions,' continuing confusionA list of so-called “sanctuary” jurisdictions around the country has been pulled from the Department of Homeland Security’s website. When published late last week, it had prompted confusion and outcry from many of those localities and the National Sheriffs’ Association. Earlier this month, Idaho Gov. Brad Little said he had thoughts on the “big, beautiful bill” advancing through Congress. To extend 2017 tax cuts, the bill would deeply cut federal spending for programs, including Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
