The Laurens County Advertiser is a family-owned newspaper that has been part of the Laurens County community since 1885. It publishes two editions each week: a paid-circulation issue on Wednesdays and a Saturday Extra edition that covers the entire market. As of now, the Wednesday edition has a circulation of 6,000 copies, while the Saturday edition reaches 19,500 readers.

Laurens County Administrator Thomas Higgs has resigned in order to take the same post in Colleton County after nearly four years on the job here. Higgs, who was hired to lead the county administration and staff in August of 2021 and navigated through Hurricane Helene and an ensuing emergency disaster declaration this past fall, told County Council Chairman Jeff Carroll of his decision to accept the new post on Friday.

A Gray Court teen was killed Wednesday in a crash at Greenpond and Simmons roads that involved an alleged drunk driver. Tyler Bishop, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Barrett Power of Fountain Inn has been charged by the South Carolina Highway Patrol with felony DUI resulting in death. Power was released from the Laurens County Detention Center on $50,000 bond.

Fountain Inn junior right-hander Brayden Passmore won a pitcher’s duel Tuesday night, beating host Laurens 1-0 and helping the No. 1-ranked Fury firmly into the driver’s seat for the Region 1-4A championship. LDHS pitchers Grayson Ledford and Caleb Rice did their job shutting down the Fury offense, but the Raiders’ bats floundered as Passmore struck out eight and walked one in the complete-game shutout.
