Let Me Breathe (LMB)
Let Me Breathe (LMB) is a platform dedicated to sharing personal stories about living with air pollution, climate change, and the transition away from fossil fuels in India. Initially, it began as a hashtag used by residents of Delhi to share their experiences during times of severe pollution. Over time, it has grown into a nationwide movement. LMB merges the principles of mobile storytelling with public advocacy, utilizing various digital and social media channels to connect with a broad audience, reaching millions of people. Launched in October 2017, the #LetMeBreathe hashtag was created for individuals to share their experiences of air pollution during Delhi's most polluted months. Today, it has expanded to 11 cities, featuring over 300 storytellers who share insights on pollution, zero waste practices, sustainability, and renewable energy. #LetMeBreathe is a community initiative led by people like us create (pluc), where all contributors go through fact-checking, mobile storytelling, and social media training.

India’s share of global CO2 emissions has sharply risen to 7.3%, making it the world’s third-largest carbon emitter. However, the country’s population share is 17.7% globally, with over 65% residing in rural areas. Notably, 85% of the poor population lives in rural India, where per capita emissions are significantly lower. This indicates that, while human activities are major contributors to emissions, rural areas are likely to bear the brunt of climate change.

When Licypriya Kangujam, the 12-year-old climate activist from India, stormed the stage at the 28th Conference Of Parties in Dubai on Monday, holding a sign “End fossil fuel, save our planet and our future”, it was a clear message that any outcome this year can’t be devoid of strong wordings on fossil fuels. Predictably, when the annual UN conference extended by a day, all eyes were on the strong messaging that may come out of the outcome.
