Hemalatha Jayaprakash worked at a Birmingham branch of Northwood lettings agency for 12 years, originally as an accountant and later as a personal assistant, and made dozens of illegal transfers from business and client accounts to herself. Jayaprakash admitted fraud by abuse of position and was sentenced to two years and three months in prison.

The supply of new Build to Rent has risen from under 1,000 new homes a year in 2004 to just under 90,000 homes in large cities in 2024 (14%), suggests a new survey by Centre for Cities. Its analysis shows that London accounts for the largest share of BTR stock at 44% of the national total, followed by Manchester at 17% and Birmingham 8%. BTR is still a relatively small share of total national housing stock and predominantly focused in London and other urban areas.
