The “Stop-the-Clock” Directive was published in the Official Journal of the EU on 16 April 2025 - see here. Member States must transpose the Stop-the-Clock Directive into national law by 31 December 2025.

On 26 February 2025, the European Commission published the much-anticipated first Omnibus package, with proposals to simplify the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD / CS3D), the Taxonomy, and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). After many weeks of speculation and rumour, we now know what changes the Commission wants to make – with the aim of simplifying and reducing regulatory burdens on business.

The European Commission published its Competitiveness Compass on 29 January 2025 (see press release). The Compass is intended to guide the work of the new Commission in the coming five years and lists priority actions to boost the EU’s competitiveness. It also provides a roadmap to how the Commission intends to take forward the recommendations in the Draghi report on the future of EU competitiveness (see our previous blog post).
