    One of Toronto’s premier live music venues will get a major renovation thanks to what is being called a historic $2.275 million donation. That funding comes from the Weston Group of Companies. The revitalization project covers essential renovations that will preserve George Weston Recital Hall and the role it plays in the city’s live music ecosystem into the future. The George Weston Recital Hall opened to fanfare — and a concert by legendary soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa — in November 1993.

    The National Ballet of Canada has been nominated for two Olivier Awards for Best New Dance Production and Outstanding Achievement in Dance. It’s a first for the company, making the dual nomination even more impressive. Both nominations revolve around the National Ballet’s tour to London for performances at Sadler’s Wells in October 2024, and the production Frontiers: Choreographers of Canada, featuring Angels’ Atlas by Crystal Pite, Passion by James Kudelka and islands by Emma Portner.

    With a recent GRAMMY Award win for Classical Vocal Solo, soprano Karen Slack is on a tour with a new recital program titled African Queens. She’ll be at the University of Toronto in Toronto’s Walter Hall on March 20, 2025, joined by pianist Kevin Miller. Slack’s GRAMMY win for her debut album Beyond the Years: Unpublished Songs of Florence Price on Azica Records represents the first time the Best Classical Vocal Album prize has gone to an album of music entirely by a Black composer.
