    There wasn’t any doubt that after John Hoffman completed his remarks at the podium on a day in which his legendary sports broadcasting career was recognized by the City of Lynn that he would flawlessly return the microphone to its stand. John Hoffman has been brilliant behind a microphone for all of the more than 40 years that he has been the preeminent voice of high school sports in the city.

    Ward 5 City Councilor Dianna Chakoutis told the Lynn Journal that she will not be seeking re-election in the 2025 city election. A lifelong resident of Ward 5, Chakoutis was first elected in 2013 and has been victorious in each of her subsequent runs for the office. Chakoutis, who is widely admired throughout the city and a popular manager at Old Tyme Italian Cuisine, also served a Council vice president during her tenure.

Elias Romero, a 40-year-old Lynn resident, will tell you that catch phrase is right on the mark, because his dream is about to become a business.  Romero recently completed the EforAll (‘E’ stands for Entrepreneurs) 12-week Business Accelerator program, receiving his certificate at the impressive EforAll Showcase and Graduation ceremony April 22 at the Peabody Essex Museum.

    The St. Mary’s High School girls basketball team will celebrate its Division 3 state championship at an awards banquet May 4 at Danversport. Reese Matela, a senior captain on the 2024-25 team, was a big reason why the Spartans added another title to their collection. Matela scored nine points in St. Mary’s 46-38 victory over Norwell in the state final at Tsongas Center in Lowell.
