The virus already has caused devastating effects in the state, which has seen the second-highest number of outbreaks in commercial poultry flocks in the nation.

Dan Ahlers recalls campaigning for a 2018 South Dakota legislative race in his hometown of Dell Rapids and calling on a household he knew was registered Republican. The woman who answered the door recognized Ahlers from his work in Pierre and said, “Dan, I like you and I appreciate what you stand for, but I can’t vote for you.”When he asked her why, she said, “I just can’t vote for a Democrat.” He lost the election by fewer than 100 votes.

Olson Funeral Chapel Carries on Local Legacy From the time she was a young girl, Autumn Olson told people she wanted to be a funeral director. This might have seemed like an unusual choice for a young girl, and looking back, Autumn is not even sure exactly what inspired that job ambition. Still, she did not waver from that goal, and decades later is proud to be the owner and operator of Olson Funeral Chapel in Britton and Forman, ND. Olson grew up in Wall, South Dakota.

The Britton-Hecla Board of Education held their September meeting this past Wednesday. Much of the time was again spent dealing with district policies. In last month’s meeting, the board adopted a new policy book that included close to 200 policies. Now they are going back and making changes to select policies as needed. Several policies were discussed.
