Life-saving research to benefit South Jersey residents can once again receive funding. The South Jersey Institute for Population Health has opened its fourth funding cycle, aptly called Cycle 4b, to allow research teams to conduct community-engaged projects to improve health outcomes in the region. Up to $300,000 in grants is up for grabs through a highly competitive application process, according to a May 12, 2025, press release.

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Pathways Program at Camden County College – which has become a labor pipeline for South Jersey’s biggest healthcare providers – just got a new crop of graduates. Thirteen Camden City youths completed the CMA program and held a graduation ceremony on May 22. All of them live in Camden and graduated from Camden City high schools last year.

Joann, which coined the slogan “Handmade Happiness,” with stores stocked with fabrics and yarn, will cease to exist after this week. Roughly 600 of the ill-fated chain’s 800 stores are shuttering for good, and it started Tuesday, May 27, in locations such as Deptford Plaza in Deptford. About 200 other Joann stores had already shut down operations last month after the retailer declared bankruptcy in January 2025 for the second time.
