Our Purpose The Mellon Foundation is dedicated to the belief that the arts and humanities are vital expressions of our intricate humanity. We hold the view that everyone should have access to the beauty, depth, and freedom that these fields offer. Through our funding initiatives, we aim to create equitable communities that are filled with meaning and foster critical thinking, allowing ideas and creativity to flourish. Mellon focuses its grants on four main areas: Arts and Culture, Higher Education, Humanities in Place, and Public Knowledge.
