Merry was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where her mother introduced her to the world of Regency romances at an early age, inspired by her own love for the works of Georgette Heyer. After earning a degree in Communication from the University of Pennsylvania, Merry began her career in fundraising for various non-profit organizations. However, she soon realized that this path didn't bring her the fulfillment she sought. She decided to pursue a master's degree in secondary education, where she shared her passion for history with teenagers in inner-city schools, hoping to spark their interest in the subject — the outcome of her efforts is still uncertain.
