The founders of Metropole, Maggie Childs, CEO, and her mother, Dardis McNamee, Editor in Chief, are a dynamic media duo. They relocated from the United States to Europe in the 1990s when Maggie was a child, after her mother began working as a speechwriter at the U.S. Embassy. Maggie's journey in media began during her university years, working with organizations like the Associated Press, Condé Nast, and Wiley Publishing. Through her experiences, she recognized that anyone who moves to a new place often feels disoriented, leaving behind the familiar for the unknown. In Vienna, nearly 600,000 residents lack an Austrian passport—this represents one-third of the population, many of whom contribute to the economy through taxes but do not have voting rights. Metropole was created to amplify these international voices and perspectives, addressing the challenges of feeling like an outsider. Language can be a significant barrier to integration, and Metropole believes that newcomers should not have to master German before they can engage with and enjoy the city.
