Miami Art Magazine
The Miami Beach Arts Trust, established in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) organization by the City of Miami Beach, aims to promote awareness and provide funding for the arts. In 2002, following a recommendation from the City Manager, the Trust became an independent entity. The Trust not only organizes workshops and highlights individual artists across various art forms but also serves as a fiscal agent for smaller non-profit organizations. It operates under the guidance of a volunteer board of directors. One of its most notable achievements is the launch of an online publication designed to better connect with South Florida's arts community and art enthusiasts. This initiative was envisioned by Harvey J. Burstein, the Chair of the Miami Beach Arts Trust. Each edition features original articles on arts and entertainment, professional critiques, and photo galleries from miamiartzine.com's skilled photographers. The publication has grown to include coverage of not just Miami-Dade County, but also Broward and Palm Beach counties. The positive feedback from the arts community has played a significant role in the continued expansion of miamiartzine.com.

Carnage, brotherhood, despair and the quest for order amid chaos.

The opening feels a bit like “A Chorus Line.” Dancers file in with dance bags into a big rehearsal space. Concrete walls. Floor to ceiling windows. There's action happening before the show starts as the audience finds their seats. “Five minutes to Michael” a man carrying a clipboard bellows. More dancers and others file in, they hug, chat. The bellowing man with the clipboard – "one minute to Michael.” And then it’s showtime.

Day 1 of the 42nd Miami Film Festival is in the rearview mirror, and in many ways it was a stroll down memory lane. For the first time in many a moon, the annual Magic City showcase of the moving image held a gala screening at the iconic Olympia Theater on Flagler Street, where many of us experienced the event in full back in the festival's heyday.

Almost all of my 2024 favorites were shut out, so I didn't bother taking the night off work and opted to catch the pleasantly retro yet rather stale ceremony after the fact.
