Middle East News Agency (MENA)

The MENA agency was established on December 15, 1955, as a joint stock company owned by Egyptian media organizations. Located in Cairo, it began its operations on February 28, 1956. In 1962, ownership transferred to the Egyptian government, and by 1978, the Shura Council became the new owner. A board of directors was formed in 1980 to manage the agency, which later came under the Ministry of Information. During the 1990s, the agency collaborated with around 25 other news agencies. It provides news coverage in three languages: Arabic, English, and French. MENA offers six key services: 1. Local Arabic News: Targeted at subscribers in Egypt, this service covers political, social, economic, cultural, and sports news from the Arab world, the Middle East, and beyond. 2. Press Services: This includes feature articles, news analysis, and photo services across international sectors like culture, art, science, sports, and history. 3. Print Publications: Subscribers receive updates about daily, biweekly, and weekly printed materials. 4. Cairo Press Review: A daily English-language publication that summarizes news from Egyptian newspapers. 5. Party Press Review: A biweekly English publication that highlights significant stories from party newspapers in Egypt. 6. The MEN (Economic Magazine): A weekly English publication focused on key economic news relevant to Egypt's economy. On February 5, 2014, the agency launched a news website named Bawabet Sharq Al Awsat.
