A US$3.8 billion ($5.8 billion) deal is the latest payday for Anglo American as it sells off its Australian coal assets, bringing the cash-out to a total of $7.5 billion. The miner announced at the start of November it had found a new owner for its stake in the Jellinbah Group joint venture, which owns the Jellinbah East and Lake Vermont steelmaking coal mines near Dysart in Queensland.
