Established in 2018, the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit news organization dedicated to empowering local communities through informative and educational journalism. The center covers a wide range of important topics, including the criminal justice system, funding for public education, issues within prisons, public corruption, political favoritism, ongoing poverty, health challenges, and racial inequalities, among others. Under the leadership of renowned investigative journalist Jerry Mitchell, a MacArthur Genius Award recipient, the center is committed to uncovering wrongdoing, shedding light on taxpayer spending, and offering practical solutions for the community’s benefit.
