MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences

The Medical Research Council (MRC) Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS), previously known as the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and the MRC London Institute of Medical Sciences, is a biomedical research facility located in West London, UK. The institute's research aims to explore the molecular and physiological foundations of health and illnesses. Founded in 1994, the LMS is primarily funded by the Medical Research Council, similar to the Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge University. It operates under Imperial College London at the Hammersmith Hospital and is part of the Institute of Clinical Sciences (ICS), which is a department within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Amanda Fisher served as the director from 2008 until 2021, and in January 2023, Wiebke Arlt took over as the new director.
