New Voices

New Voices stands out as the sole national magazine in the U.S. that is created for and by Jewish college students. Since its inception in 1991, this independent, non-profit publication, managed by the Jewish Student Press Service, reaches over 20,000 students both in the United States and around the world. The magazine is crafted by a recent college graduate based in New York City, along with numerous student writers from various campuses nationwide, all operating on a limited yearly budget.

Photo by Judy GoldsteinOn March 8th 2025, Mahmoud Khalil, a permanent resident of the U.S., was detained by ICE. He had committed no crime, only exercising his free speech as one of the primary organizers of pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. Photography by Yoav Rahamim You could hear the neighbor’s violin strumming from the end of the road. He was always playing at this hour, just as the sun was setting, The quietest part of the day. The usual chatter of Modiin was long dead. People were crawling back into their crevices. I stood on the living room balcony watching the sunset. It had been a few weeks since we got here, and the suitcases stood in unceremonious heaps on the deck. The sky was beautiful. Haunting. The air was cold.
