    by Casey Kelderman Before Eli Roth’s Thanksgiving hacked and slashed its way onto the big screen in 2023, student film from Ohio reigned supreme as the gravy Thanksgiving-themed slashers. Thanksgiving is the untapped holiday of horror. For some reason, the holiday filled with a rich history of carving up slabs of meat is nearly void of horror films that utilize the macabre setting.

There is no one answer – there are, in fact, as many reasons as there are horror fans. But I have a personal theory that four of the biggest reasons can be mapped onto a handful of musical subcultures. I call it my “people who wear black” theory. Not all goths, punks, metalheads, and emos are horror fans, of course.
