No Bells started in 2021 as a space for niche music blogging and forgotten digital articles. Over time, it has transformed into a vibrant hub for the underground music scene, exploring both past and present records that influence cultures and energize us. A special thanks to Srikar Poruri for his amazing work in art direction and web design (if you remember when I managed this site alone, you're a true Day 1 supporter!) and to Joyce Ma for creating the logo. We also want to acknowledge the influential blogs that came before us—Passion of the Weiss, 2dopeboyz, Cocaine Blunts, Tone Glow, and many others. We hope to reach just a fraction of their greatness and inspire some new voices along the way. If you're interested in contributing to our site, please check out our pitching guidelines. – Mano Sundaresan

Nine months ago, about 140 miles east of where Donald Trump caught a bloody ear, I was waiting at the State College Greyhound station for a stranger to pick me up. An overstuffed hiking pack teetered on my shoulders; a man without teeth wanted conversation. Penn State students flitted down Atherton Avenue on their bicycles, not one stopping to ask where I was headed with my cooler and my tent. Truth was stranger than fiction: I was off to party in Amish country.

These days, I don’t like throwing parties. Maybe I’m just #27AndWashed, but I also think it has to do with the fact that they can be a lot of work, and you shouldn’t have to work hard to have fun! (All the hours that went into those Living Gallery events last year…don’t get me started.) These days, I’d rather just kick it at the crib, invite a few people over, maybe watch a movie (damn I’m definitely washed).

KIERAN: I like listmaking as much as the next guy but this year, they’ve got me exhausted. List after list after list. I started dreaming in lists, little bullet points and rank-charts floating in my mind. Yet I still looked forward to the List of Lists because it’s not really a list, just an anarchic sprawl of brain-dumps. After a year of writing and thinking, music-making and performing, what do our favorite critics and artists want to riff about that they haven’t had the chance to?

And a microcosm of the American Dream? He is matched up with a bull named Rockville, who ranks 23rd in the world and shakes 88% of the people who attempt to ride him. Despite his 5 ’10 frame, Gleaves weighs 145 lbs and will be tasked with holding onto 1,600 lbs of autonomous muscle and sinew. If he can remain intact for eight seconds, he—and the animal underneath him—will receive a score out of 50.

Very happy to feature a guest mix from my friend Adlai in this month’s NTS slot. A lovely DJ, masterful producer and edit-maker, my SSENSE Bape plug, my girlfriend’s close friend, a real one. Plus he made all the sick No Bells DJ tags. Tune in at 7PM tonight! And check September’s guest mix from ZAYALLCAPS if you haven’t.
