Norran

Norran

Norran was established in 1910 by a group of passionate newspaper supporters, led by Anton Wikström from Jörn. The first edition made its debut on January 1, 1911. Owned by the Skelleftepress foundation, Norran is published in Berliner format in Skellefteå and primarily serves the northern regions of Västerbotten, with a liberal editorial stance. While most local news articles are produced in Skellefteå, the newspaper also has local correspondents in Arjeplog, Arvidsjaur, Malå, and Norsjö. Norran has been available online since February 1996, providing its main news service for free. To celebrate its 100th anniversary, the staff announced on January 4, 2010, that they would officially adopt the name "Norran," a title long embraced by its readers. The website's URL had already been established as norran.se. In February 2023, with the opening of the new Northvolt electric battery factory recruiting English-speaking staff from around the globe, Norran launched an English-language news service called Norran English, overseen by former UK national newspaper journalist Paul Connolly. This made Norran the first newspaper in Sweden to offer an English-language news service.
