Pakistan Press International (PPI)

Pakistan Press International (PPI)

Pakistan Press International (PPI) is a prominent news agency in Pakistan, established in June 1956 under the original name Pakistan Press Association (PPA). In 1968, the agency changed its name to Pakistan Press International. It was founded by Muazzam Ali, who was the Chief Editor of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) at the time. The main goal of PPA was to challenge APP’s dominance in the Pakistani news landscape. PPA focused on creating a network of correspondents in smaller towns and cities, which set it apart from APP, as APP primarily covered only a few major urban areas. To enhance its foreign news coverage, the agency partnered with Agence France-Presse (AFP) in 1957 and became the first Asian affiliate of DPA a year later. Additionally, PPA established a correspondent in the Middle East, a region of significant interest for Pakistani media.
