Parisvoice
"Parisvoice" started its journey in 1979 as a complimentary weekly newspaper, drawing inspiration from alternative publications like the "Chicago Reader" and "Village Voice." Initially named "Paris Free Voice," it became the very first free publication of its kind in Paris. In its early days, it partnered with the American Church located on Quai d'Orsay to host various community activities, including jazz concerts, poetry readings, art festivals, and flea markets. By the late 1980s, the publication transitioned into a monthly magazine that highlighted Paris' vibrant cultural scene while catering to the English-speaking community in the city. Today, its archives serve as a valuable record of life for English-speaking expats in Paris during that time. On the occasion of the magazine's tenth anniversary, David Applefield penned a reflective editorial about its whimsical beginnings.
