People parking in Portsmouth city centre will see a change to parking, as a popular city centre car park comes under council control. Portsmouth City Council is taking over the management of Market Way car park in the city centre from 16 May 2025, bringing it more in line with other council car parks in the area and offering new payment options for people parking and visiting shops.

Portsmouth City Council is working with Hampshire Constabulary to help residents protect their bicycles from theft by registering them with Bike Register, making it easier for the police to recover stolen bikes. Registering a bike with Bike Register is quick and simple to do and increases the chances of owners being reunited with their bike in the event of it being stolen.

Portsmouth City Council is pleased to announce the return of Repair & Ride sessions for everyone in Portsmouth in 2025. Residents can learn the basics of cycle maintenance through a series of informal, hands-on workshops suitable for adults of all ages and abilities. At each session, experienced bike mechanics from The Pompey Cycle Hub will teach residents the essential skills to keep their bikes in tip-top condition throughout the year.

In a letter to Minister of State for Local Government and English Devolution Jim McMahon, Cllr Steve Pitt reiterated Portsmouth City Council’s view that it is already a sustainable organisation and should not be required to be part of the Government’s Local Government Reorganisation programme which is mainly aimed at two-tier council areas or failing authorities.

Weekly car boot sales are returning to Southsea on Sunday 20 April, with the first sale taking place on Castle Field. The remaining dates, from Sunday 27 April, are taking place on Duisburg Way (on the common by the Pier Road roundabout, south side of Duisburg Way). Weather permitting, the popular car boot sales are open 7am to 1pm every Sunday until 28 September (except 29 June) and entry is free to bargain hunters, hot food and drinks will be available on site.
