Presque Isle County Advance

The Presque Isle County Advance is a community newspaper that has been serving its readers since 1878, founded by local pioneer Fredrick Denny Larke. It holds the title of the most popular newspaper in Presque Isle County. The newspaper is published by Presque Isle Newspapers, which also produces the Onaway Outlook. Both publications are managed from offices located in Rogers City and Onaway, Michigan, catering specifically to the residents of Presque Isle County. Hal Whiteley was the editor for an impressive 50 years, from 1912 until 1962, after which his son, Harry H. Whiteley, took over the editorial helm until the paper was sold in 1986 to Richard Milliman. In 1998, Richard and Riconda Lamb acquired Presque Isle Newspapers from the Milliman family, with Richard having worked as the general manager for Mr. Milliman since 1989 after returning to his hometown of Rogers City. A significant challenge arose on February 12, 2006, when a fire destroyed their historic building in Rogers City. Despite this setback, the newspaper staff and the supportive community ensured that the paper remained in circulation, with the next issue published just three days after the fire. By December 2006, the paper moved into a new office located at the corner of Third and Erie Streets in Rogers City, continuing its legacy of community journalism.
