Catching My Breath…

Hey guys! 👋 Just checking in with a quick update. It’s been a rough couple of months. After just one round of Truxima (a “biosimilar” to the Rituxan treatments I’ve been receiving for years to manage my RA) I’ve had a 103° fever two different times; I’ve gone through FOUR rounds of antibiotics, two chest X-rays and a CT scan – and STILL have shortness of breath and pneumonia in both lungs. I’ve also lost 20+ pounds over the past two months. I was finally able to see a pulmonologist this morning.

Ten years ago, on February 10, 2015, I had bilateral knee replacement surgery. That’s both knees, at the same time. I had just had both hips replaced 15 months earlier — on December 2, 2013. Our Lola Jean was just six months old. A few years earlier, I had stopped taking all of my RA treatments — hoping to start a family. It took much longer than we anticipated, leading to irreparable damage to my body.

Who knew ten years could go by so quickly? Lola celebrated her 10th birthday on August 4th. Ten years ago — after sharing our difficult journey to parenthood with viewers in Central Ohio (and beyond) — we were elated to announce that Lola Jean was born. We still had quite a long road ahead of us, but I can’t tell you how much we appreciated that outpouring of support from friends, family and even total strangers.

Rocky is an amazing young woman who certainly knows a thing or two about “not giving up.” This year, Rocky’s mom & dad joined her when she stopped by our PSNeverGiveUp booth — along with friends from Spain and Venezuela — to say hello and pick up some PSNeverGiveUp merchandise! INFUSION DAY! Feeling pretty tired after today’s Rituxan infusion. I receive Rituximab treatments every six months to treat my severe rheumatoid arthritis symptoms (two four-hour infusions, two weeks apart). Scheduling them can be challenging, for a number of reasons. First off, the treatments are INCREDIBLY expensive — and require preauthorization from insurance. Thankfully, many drug companies offer co-pay assistance programs to help offset the cost of biologic treatments.
