TULARE COUNTY, Calif. - The California High-Speed Rail Authority has completed the Avenue 56 grade separation, making it the first high-speed rail structure completed in Tulare County. According to the release from CHSRA, the overpass was hit by atmospheric rivers in March 2023.
PANYNJ Begins $160MM Project at Newark Intl. Airport

NEWARK, N.J. - Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has started construction on a $160 million transit access project at Newark Liberty International Airport. According to PANYNJ, the project will add a new point of entry at the airport that is served by AirTrain Newark, Amtrak and NJ TRANSIT. The project also reportedly includes extending a pedestrian bridge over the platforms to a “public access area off Frelinghuysen Avenue.” PANYNJ states this new entry point will open sometime in 2026.

Metra Begins Rehab at 95th St./CSU Station

CHICAGO - Metra begins rehabilitation to expand the 95th St./Chicago State University Station on its Electric Line. According to Metra, the $56 million project will improve the station’s accessibility, including the connection to the university. John Burns Construction of Westmont was awarded the project, as reported by RT&S in June 2024. It will replace the platform, stairs, and current headhouse as well as construct a new street-level entrance on 95th Street.

AVERY COUNTY, N.C. - Seven new spans are now in place for the Poplar Bridge, marking a milestone in CSX's efforts to restore the Blue Ridge Subdivision. In April, RT&S reported that CSX was currently making headway in its Blue Ridge Subdivision recovery efforts. Crews pulled track materials out of the Nolichucky River after Hurricane Helene destroyed the Poplar Bridge in fall of 2024. Since February 24, 2025, crews have been working to remove rail, ties, and other equipment.

BROWARD, Fla. - A $15,440,000 FRA grant was approved to go toward the Broward MPO's Sealed Corridor Project in Broward County. According to Brightline, this grant was “officially executed on May 30, 2025.” Additionally, the cities of Hallandale Beach, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Wilton Manors, and Pompano Beach are also contributing a combined $3,860,000 in local funds. This brings the total investment to $19,300,000.
VTA Recommends Change in Contractor for BART Tunnel as Cost-Saving Measure

SAN FRANCISCO - The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, or VTA, BART Silicon Valley Phase II staff have recommended that the VTA move forward with a different tunnel contractor to better meet the budgetary needs of the project. According to the release, the VTA BART Silicon Valley Phase II staff made the recommendation on June 12th to the Oversight Committee.

According to the release, the video update highlights the progress made on “the nation’s first 220 mph high-speed rail system currently taking shape in the Central Valley.” The video features the work done on the railhead project. The project includes a new facility where equipment and materials for laying track will be housed located in Kern County.

AUSTIN - The Austin Transit Partnership has released official solicitation for a multibillion final design and construction contract. This contract is expected to be awarded in early 2026 to allow for preparation of Austin Light Rail Phase 1 occurring in 2027. According to Austin Transit Partnership, or ATP, the city’s first light rail system will include all-electric trains running every 5 to 10 minutes and connect residents to job centers and hubs.
