ALPHARETTA, GA – It’s a milestone worth bragging about, and Honda did so today with a press release touting that it has built 500 million motorcycles since beginning mass production in Japan in 1949. The first model produced 76 years ago was the 1949 Dream D-Type (shown above). Honda was founded in 1948. It wasn’t until 1963 that it began production of models outside of Japan with the opening of a factory in Belgium. Honda’s subsidiary in the United States launched on June 11, 1959.

FAIRFIELD, CT – Connecticut has a new motorcycle and scooter dealership with the opening this month of Motoplex Fairfield. It’s selling Aprilia and Moto Guzzi motorcycles and Vespa and Piaggio-branded scooters, all made in Italy and owned by parent company Piaggio. The store’s arrival at 301 Commerce Drive came at the start of May and reversed a trend that has seen power sports businesses closing in the state.

THOMASTON, CT – Off-road motorcyclists will get two fewer days each week to ride the 13 miles of trails behind Thomaston Dam in 2025. A federal hiring freeze has resulted in a staff reduction at the popular recreation area which serves about 40,000 riders annually. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced earlier this week that it has trimmed the number of days the area will be open to the public. It has also reduced the number of hours on the days the area is open.

MILWAUKEE – In a move that certainly raises questions about motivation, Harley-Davidson on Friday reduced the price of its entry-level Nightster model, bragging the “model is now available for under $10,000.”Not much under $10,000, though. Actually, just a measly $1 less. The base Billiard Gray version of the Nightster now has an MSRP of $9,999, which is significantly less than the $13,499 price tag model had when it was introduced in 2022.
