If you have friends who are passionate about music and skilled writers, these trends can lead to some truly captivating and thought-provoking music discussions. The person who starts these conversations enjoys the thrill of likes and lively comments, but they often miss out on earning money or sharing their insights with anyone outside their friend circle. Rock and Roll Globe was created to give writers a space to express their personal musical thoughts and experiences to a wider audience. I am confident in the effectiveness of this idea. During my nearly five years as editor of the New York Observer, my talented team and I, all musicians ourselves, discovered remarkable writers and allowed them the freedom to express their views. We successfully built a community of fans, critics, musicians, and industry professionals who regularly visited the Observer's music section for fresh and intriguing perspectives on all kinds of music. I mean, if there’s anybody that can resist the unbridled ecstasy of the frenetic acceleration of “Uncontrollable Urge,” I’ve yet to meet them. Jill Sobule, the acclaimed singer-songwriter and fierce human rights activist, has passed away. She was 66. Sobule, who made history with her 1995 single “I Kissed a Girl” as the first openly gay-themed song ever to crack the Billboard Top 20, lost her life in a house fire early this morning. She’s been receiving universal acclaim for her latest project, the autobiographical coming-of-age musical F*ck 7th Grade, which received a New York Times Critic’s pick and a Drama Desk nomination.
