Rough Guides

Rough Guides is a prominent travel publishing brand celebrated for its straightforward, no-nonsense style, reliable and current information, and expert writing. In the summer of 1981, Mark Ellingham, fresh out of Bristol University, was exploring Greece but found that existing guidebooks didn’t meet his expectations. During his travels, he crossed paths with Martin Dunford, who was in Greece at the time to teach English. Upon returning to the UK, they, along with a few fellow writers, decided to create their own series of guidebooks. Their goal was to merge journalistic storytelling with practical insights tailored for travelers.
