The owners of Spar A&J Alloa Road Shop in Stenhousemuir, and staff and owners of the Nisa Local in Abbeyview, Dunfermline, have been honoured with Pride of Scotland Awards. Asiyah and Jawad Javed got the surprise of their lives back in May when Sanjeev Kholi, AKA Naveen the shopkeeper from cult Scottish comedy, Still Game, entered their Spar store to announce that the retailers had won a Special Recognition Award. ”We were thinking why is he even here? There were smiles all round when Greens of Kinross treated school kids to some snacks for their Beach Party. The event, which was held to celebrate the end of term, saw the kids decked out in flower garlands, Hawaiian shirts and even a rubber ring. The holiday vibes were in full swing as partygoers tucked in to bottles of fruit squash, water, crisps and sweet treats.

A 44-year-old Greenock man has been sentenced to eight months in jail for shoplifting throughout Inverclyde. Thomas Steele was sentenced at Greenock Sheriff Court earlier this month. Inspector Paul Thompson said: “Thomas [Steele] is a prolific shoplifter in the Inverclyde area, with his actions having a detrimental effect on local businesses. This result is welcomed and should give the local businesses the respite they deserve from his offending.

Valerie Aston of Proudfoot Newby in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, has seen sales rocket after installing Co-op Wholesale’s in-store bakery (ISB) as part of a major refit. “We’ve gone from turning over around £500 a week in bakery sales to over £2,000,” she said. “The range, the pricing, the quality – it’s transformed our offer. Customers love it.”She added: “We’ve definitely attracted new shoppers – the range looks great, smells amazing, and the quality is exceptional.
