Shasta County’s legal counsel, Joseph Larmour, took security matters into his own hands yesterday when he approached a public commenter at the chamber dais, pulling the microphone away from their face to prevent their comment from being heard. Larmour was assisting Board Chair Kevin Crye, who repeatedly interrupted the speaker before instructing the clerk of the board to cut the speaker’s microphone. The clerk didn’t.

Today, Francescut was terminated by Clint Curtis, a newly appointed Registrar of Voters who’s never before run an election office. This is his fifth day on the job. Francescut said she learned of her termination this afternoon, May 27. It’s effective as of end of day today.

In February of this year, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to give former Orange County (OC) treasurer Chriss Street a short-term role as a healthcare consultant. The board’s vote stipulated that Street, who’s now a Shasta County resident, would be paid up to $40,000 for a six-month project to assess how best to address Shasta County’s severe lack of healthcare providers and relatively high rates of premature death.

Curtis is a former software engineer and attorney who’s never lived in Shasta County or held a role in election management until he was appointed by Shasta County Supervisors last week after two other ROV’s stepped down mid-term.
