Shonen Jump Magazine

Shonen Jump, often seen as SHONEN JUMP or simply SJ, is a shōnen manga collection published in North America by Viz Media. It first hit the shelves in November 2002, with its inaugural issue featuring a cover date of January 2003. This anthology is adapted from the well-known Japanese magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump, specifically tailored for English-speaking readers in the U.S. One significant change was shifting from a weekly release to a monthly format. The magazine includes serialized chapters from four different manga series, along with articles about Japanese culture, language, manga, anime, video games, and collectibles. Before launching the magazine, Viz conducted a comprehensive marketing strategy to ensure its success, especially since earlier manga anthologies in North America struggled. To support this effort, Shueisha invested in Viz and teamed up with partners like Cartoon Network, Suncoast, and Diamond Distributors for promotional activities.
