The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, commonly known as SMPTE (pronounced /ˈsɪmptiː/, sometimes /ˈsʌmptiː/), was established in 1916 originally as the Society of Motion Picture Engineers (SMPE). It serves as a worldwide professional group for engineers, technologists, and leaders within the media and entertainment sector. SMPTE is well-known for setting industry standards and has released over 800 technical standards and associated documents that cover a range of areas, including broadcasting, filmmaking, digital cinema, audio recording, information technology (IT), and medical imaging.

Future of CinemaSMPTE’s 2025 NAB Show journey began on Saturday, 5 April, with an all-day Future of Cinema Conference (FOCC).

The Saudi Media Forum (FOMEX) was held February 19-21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. SMPTE had the privilege of presenting several sessions at the event with the intent of boosting the nation’s media technology infrastructure and training the next generation of Saudi engineers and technologists. Over 60% of Saudi Arabia’s population is under the age of 30, and the government is planning the construction of 300 radio stations, multiple television studios, and technology centers.
