With the Sounders picking up their first win in over a month, Aaron and Mark are in a sunny mood as they discuss the blissfully uneventful win over FC Dallas. Topics of conversation include a return to defensive form, the impact of Pedro de la Vega, and Danny Musovski's big night. In this week’s power rankings, they go over the top reasons they continue to believe the Sounders will be just fine in the long run. Is It Time to Be Optimistic?

A bounce-back game in Dallas was vintage Sounders from previous successful seasons: an early opportunistic finish off of forward pressure, and a shut-down defense to hold on for the win. Tacoma Defiance took 120 minutes plus stoppage time to do it, but they beat Oakland Roots 2-1 in the third round of the US Open Cup. A 28th minute free kick banger from Peter Kingston and a 108th minute finish from Osaze De Rosario proved enough to overcome a 75th minute penalty for the Roots from Neveal Hackshaw and a 117th minute red card for Cody Baker, as Defiance now await the outcome of the draw to learn their opponents for the 4th round of the U.S. Open Cup.

The Tacoma Defiance will play arguably the biggest game in their history tonight when they host the USL Championship’s Oakland Roots in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup at Starfire Stadium. The game will air on Paramount+ and is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 PM. The winner will likely get a chance to face a MLS team in the fourth round of the tournament. The Defiance come into the match off a 3-2 loss to LAFC2, but had won four straight across all competitions prior to that.
