MATTHEWS – Epic Hospitality received the approvals from the Town of Matthews necessary to build a 104-room hotel on Council Place. Town commissioners voted April 14 to approve the project, contingent on a post construction ordinance, which representatives of Epic Hospitality said was waiting for approval. “The applicant has been working diligently to address concerns that were raised during the Dec. 9 public hearing,” Senior Planner Rob Will told town commissioners April 14.

I’m part of a volunteer group that ensures recreational boating safety. I needed to have a form processed but was experiencing problems. I pressed but had no success. I was unwilling to back down. At one point, I got short with the person who was trying to help me. I told her to look at the form. When I looked at it, I realized it was corrupted and couldn’t be processed. MATTHEWS – Town commissioners reviewed a rezoning proposal April 14 that would add 136 townhomes on nearly 12 acres between Mecklenburg County’s Idlewild Park and a Lidl store. Bridget Grant, a land-use consultant with Moore & Van Allen, framed the Lilly Townhomes rezoning as a solution for the lack of housing diversity and for-sale homes in Matthews. Grant pointed to 12 homes for sale in Matthews between $250,000 and $550,000.
