Southern Illinois Salukis
The Southern Illinois Salukis are the official sports teams for Southern Illinois University Carbondale. Their name is inspired by the Saluki, known as the Royal Dog of Egypt and the Persian greyhound. This choice reflects the region’s historical nickname, "Little Egypt," which has been in use for nearly 200 years.
