Why Should Delaware Care? On Wednesday, Senate Education Committee members will vote on a bill that would require districts and charters to establish policies restricting cell phone usage and publish the policies on their websites before the start of the next school year. This is the first policy relating to phones inside classrooms since last year, when lawmakers approved $250,000 to test an expansion of cell phone pouches in middle and high schools.

All must hold meeting that are open to the public. Delaware’s controversial hospital cost review board will hold a public meeting this week. So will power utility regulators who may approve rate increases, and transportation planners who will discuss Delaware’s biggest infrastructure project.

Why Should Delaware Care? Local school boards are the governing authority for school districts. They are also designed to be a way for the general public to influence how schools work. In Delaware, May 13 is election day for boards of education throughout the state, and 11 of Delaware’s 19 school districts will be holding races.  Delawareans throughout the state will have the opportunity to vote next week for board of education members at their local school districts.

But that goal has become more unlikely, as the commission tasked with studying Delaware’s public education funding formula did not vote to move forward with its new hybrid framework on Monday.
