Established in 1982, the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association is a recognized club of the AMA. Its main goal is to unite riders who are passionate about motorcycle sport touring, no matter what type or brand of motorcycle they ride.

The River City Ride is an MSTA rally that had eluded me for years. I’d wanted to go since shortly after I joined the MSTA in 2014, but each year I had a scheduling conflict that didn’t allow me to go. When the dates for the 2024 rally were announced – and had moved one week later from its traditional weekend – I finally had a chance to attend it. And I’m glad I did.

I’m a bit of an oddball MSTA member. Most of the members I’ve met in my 10 or so years of being part of the organization like to ride in groups. At MSTA rallies, most of the riders I’ve seen depart the hotel parking lot are doing so in packs of three or more. Then there’s me, who enjoys doing my own thing in my own time. So why do I continue to pay dues to be a member of a club whose main activity I don’t partake in? It’s for the camaraderie and resources an MSTA membership offers to all its members.
