Stavanger Aftenbladet

Stavanger Aftenbladet

Stavanger Aftenblad was established in 1893 by pastor and politician Lars Oftedal. After his passing in 1900, his son, Lars Oftedal, took over as editor and continued in that role until his death in 1932, after which his son, Christian S. Oftedal, assumed the editorial position. During World War II, Lars Oftedal initially attempted to comply with the imposed censorship. However, on June 19, 1940, he was dismissed for refusing to publish material dictated by the occupying forces. Later that year, in August, he was arrested for opposing the regime and imprisoned. On April 16, 1942, Nazi official Johannes Kringlebotn was appointed as the new editor, marking Stavanger Aftenblad as the first Norwegian newspaper to adopt the "New Order" under Nazi control.
