Hundreds braved the stormy weather today for the Stoke-on-Trent People's Parade which saw creatives, performers and organisations take to the streets in Hanley in a vibrant celebration of the city. The parade forms part of the celebrations to mark Stoke-on-Trent being awarded official city status and included a 16ft puppet, one hundred ducks, dancing cupcakes and a twenty-strong marching band, KiLNE. "Significant" road works are starting in Newcastle-under-Lyme on Monday 9 June and will last for around 6 weeks. Lower Milehouse Lane will be resurfaced in parts, including the approaches and exits from Douglas Road to approximately 100 meters west of Wilmot Drive. Crews will also be fixing damaged drainage, kerbing and ironwork and installing additional tactile crossings.

Two men have been hospitalised after a 'large disturbance' in Stoke-on-Trent this morning (6 June)Emergency services were called out to Argyll Road, off Upper Belgrave Road, in Normacot at 11:45am. Videos which circulated on social media showed at least eight police cars in attendance and dozens of people in the street on Argyll Road. Two men were left with head injuries and have been taken to hospital by paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Hundreds of artists, creatives and community groups are set to march through the streets of Hanley on Saturday for Stoke-on-Trent's People's Parade to celebrate the city's centenary. The parade will set off from outside Stoke-on-Trent College at around 1pm on 7 June and there will be a number of road closures in place for drivers to be aware of. Access to some roads will be affected by short road closures to allow the People's Parade to safely follow their route.

A licensing hearing to decide whether a takeaway could open until 4am has been forced to reschedule in the interests of 'natural justice'. Caprinos Pizza in Newcastle applied to the council to extend opening hours but objections from Environment Health over potential increases in noise forced a hearing. The Liverpool Road takeaway applied to vary its premises licence so it can provide late night refreshment until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays and 3am the rest of the week.
Family pay tribute to Stoke-on-Trent man with 'a heart of a lion' killed in M6 crash

A heartbroken family have paid a loving tribute to a man with 'a heart of a lion' who died following a collision on the M6. Christopher Condliffe, 30, was hit by an Audi Q7 on the M6 between junctions 33 and 34 near Lancaster on Saturday 31 May just before 11pm. He has been remembered by his family as having a 'gorgeous smile' and having 'lived life to the max'. Paying tribute, his family said: "Our Chris, my boy, had the most gorgeous smile – everyone always remembers his smile.
Police need help finding 'distinctive' pink mobility scooter stolen twice in Stoke-on-Trent

Officers from Staffordshire Police are investigating the theft of a pink mobility scooter in Stoke-on-Trent. The pink 'Vortox' scooter was stolen from outside a property near Park Road in Burslem on Saturday 17 May at 8am and was found a short time later in an alleyway before being stolen again by 11am. Officers believed the scooter had been abandoned at Ford Green Nature Reserve but they were unable to locate it.

A century-old time capsule retrieved from the site of the former North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary Hospital was opened today as part of Stoke-on-Trent's centenary celebrations. Inside the capsule was letters and documents about the history of the Royal Infirmary and coins donated to hospital from Newcastle Borough and Stoke-on-Trent councillors at the time. Other findings included a £1 bank note and a hospital annual report from 1923.
