Searching for a 1-bedroom with ample space, light, and conveniences — without a seven-figure price tag? You may not think to look in Carroll Gardens due to its higher-than-average asking prices. But there are some great units in the neighborhood at even greater prices, like 3 4th Place #6. Our Deal of the Week is a Carroll Gardens 1-bedroom co-op complete with a dishwasher, lots of windows, and a convenient location in Brooklyn.

If the post-Memorial Day weekend return to work left you feeling diminished, get a nice pick-me-up from this weekend’s exciting slate of open houses. Our favorites include an East Village two-bedroom with its own solarium, a four-bedroom Forest Hills house with an endearingly suburban feel, and a Clinton Hill one-bedroom built in 1875. There are also many more listings with upcoming open houses to be found on StreetEasy.

Median asking prices in Cobble Hill are among the highest in Brooklyn, but that doesn’t mean you have to veer into the seven-figure range to buy in this historic, brownstone-filled neighborhood. Just take a look at 443 Hicks St. #5G, which has an asking price below $500K. Our Deal of the Week is a Cobble Hill 1-bedroom condo with large windows, gorgeous hardwood floors and modern upgrades.

As far as perks go, free rent is a great one. In some buildings — often new developments — a lease will extend past a year and offer one or more months free, which brings the amortized rent down considerably. It’s an exciting thing to find! (Just keep in mind that the lower amortized rent is only for the duration of the lease, and if you renew, your rent will likely increase to market rate.) That said, we’ve found some fantastic listings offering free months of rent.

Prices on the Upper West Side are only slightly lower compared to their counterpart to the east, but still sit above median asking prices for Manhattan as a whole. But that doesn’t mean you have to venture into seven-figure territory to buy on the UWS — just take a look at 320 W. 84th St. #6B. Our Deal of the Week is a studio located just feet from Riverside Park and outfitted with Murphy beds, large windows, and a renovated bathroom and kitchen.
