The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has fined TikTok €530 million for breaches of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) relating to the social network’s transfer of EU citizens’ personal data to servers in China. On top of the fine, the DPC issued an order giving the social network six months to bring its processing into line with GDPR. The decision also includes an order suspending TikTok’s transfers to China if processing is not brought into compliance within this timeframe.

According to Alibaba, these models match – and in some cases would even exceed – the performance of Google’s best systems and OpenAI. The Cupertino, California-based tech giant reported revenues of $95.36 billion and profits of $24.6 billion for the fiscal second quarter (ended March 29). IPhone sales came in at $46.84 billion, slightly higher than expectations of $46.17 billion.
