If Congress fails to extend current tax provisions, America’s farmers and ranchers will be forced to pay $9 billion more in federal taxes every year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF). Tax relief enacted by the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) is set to expire at the end of this year, which would lead to tax increases for almost two-thirds of families, including those in rural America.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is set to provide $1 billion in disaster payments to livestock producers affected by drought or wildfire in 2023 and 2024. The funds will be distributed through the Emergency Livestock Relief Program (ELRP), offering financial support to offset grazing losses and other impacts driven by prolonged dry conditions and catastrophic wildfires.
