Six hundred miles away, an explosion and gunfire had rocked an aerospace company near Turkey’s capital, leaving at least 5 people dead and 22 injured. Turkey’s Defense Minister Yasar Guler pointed to the culprits, the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK.

Karmella Borashan from California and Shoushan Tower from Australia represented the Assyrian Aid Society of Iraq (AAS of Iraq) at the 23rd annual U.N. Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, the largest global gathering of Indigenous advocate leaders.

In an audio message posted to his church’s YouTube channel, Emmanuel advised his community to act Christ-like. “The Lord Jesus said never return evil with evil but return evil with good,” Emmanuel said in a four-minute address.

By Joe Snell | April 15, 2024Assyrian Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was stabbed during a sermon in Sydney on April 15 at the altar of his church. Three worshippers were also injured in the attack. A live stream of the service shows a man dressed in black charge the altar and swing a knife at the priest. The congregation moved forward to protect him. Emmanuel and another priest are in stable condition, the church said in a statement posted on social media.
Arizona’s new community center will be a space for Assyrians to unite

Assyrian Women debut Christmas album in Aramaic

By Joe Snell | Jan. 8, 2024An Assyrian women’s choir released their first album on Dec. 15, a collection of Christmas melodies sung almost exclusively in Aramaic. The album, “The Joy of Christmas,” mixes 14 choir songs and solo performances, 11 sung in Aramaic. The album is available on iTunes. The group behind the anthology is “Assyrian Women,” composed of singers from as far as Germany, Canada, the U.S., Australia and Ukraine. For years they’ve performed live concerts in California.
