The Chicago Thinker

The Chicago Thinker

The Chicago Thinker is the sole independent newspaper at the University of Chicago, entirely managed by students with a focus on conservative and libertarian perspectives. Defy the crowd. Certain values are too important to give up to the crowd, and the freedom to share ideas is one of them. The Chicago Thinker stands against the crowd's assault on free speech by offering insightful conservative and libertarian articles, along with accurate reporting.

On July 29, I saw one of the most culturally significant films of 2023 and perhaps the rest of the decade. The Barbie movie and its stellar, star-studded cast did not disappoint in the slightest; and, contra its critics, the film is extremely well done and intellectually compelling. Director Greta Gerwig’s design is intentional and well-crafted. The aesthetics of Barbieland are striking against the realistic Los Angeles and corporate Mattel.

  • Apr 16, 2023 | thechicagothinker.com | Casey B. Mulligan |Tomas Philipson

Following this Thinker prologue is an exclusive op-ed by University of Chicago Professors Casey Mulligan and Tomas Philipson on former President Donald Trump’s Operation Warp Speed. The piece was originally slated for publication in The New York Times, which catch-and-killed Mulligan and Philipson’s story by delaying its release before aborting it altogether.
