The Government is finally set to unveil its flagship Crime and Policing Bill. The Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, says it will ‘take back our streets’ and restore respect for law and order’. But this behemoth is ripe for hijacking in the name of  abortion ‘rights’. Every abortion takes a life. More than 10 million human beings have been killed in Britain since the passing of the Abortion Act in 1967.[1] At present, the death toll runs at around 300,000 a year.

The pace of the 24-hour news cycle means nothing stays the focus for long. So, inevitably, the appalling revelations of Britain’s child rape gangs have dropped out of the headlines. This present life is a one-way ticket in the direction of old age. “The measure of a civilisation is how it treats its weakest members” is a quote that has been attributed to Mahatma Gandhi, but it has been repeated, in one form or another, by many others.

In The Times earlier this month, James Marriott – a journalist who writes on society, culture, and ideas – recommended the podcast Misquoting Jesus with Bart Ehrman. Ehrman is a well-known writer, who since the early 1990s has presented to a wider public the perspective of ‘critical’ textual scholarship on the New Testament. Ehrman is an ex-Evangelical, now describing himself as an agnostic.
