Interestingly, both episodes of The Last of Us season 2 have opened with Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), much like I mentioned during my review of episode 1; we see the fallout of Joel’s actions and how they affect others. This time, we open with Abby’s nightmare: her younger self finding what remains of Joel’s rampage at the Firefly base in Salt Lake City after being warned by her current self not to go inside.

The first fifteen minutes or so of The Last of Us season 2 are quite discombobulating, even for someone who enjoyed the first. The long gaps between seasons of television is making it increasingly harder to remember where you left things with these characters. It soon transpires that the confusion here is by design, as the story jumps forward five years in the future to find Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) once father-daughter-like bond, broken and seemingly beyond repair.

Even if I hadn’t rewatched the first season of Severance in preparation for this second, it is truly astonishing how memorable and effective Season 1’s finale was. The innies infiltrating the lives of their outies was properly exhilarating. Ever since, it doesn’t feel as if Lumon or employees on the severed floor have been able to recover or get things back under control.

Luke and Matt board the TV Time Machine to view the TV landscape of March 2000. Ross Kemp signs a ‘golden handcuffs deal’ with ITV to work for solely for that broadcaster. At least initially, the result is a single drama entitled Hero of the Hour, which stars Kemp as a security guard who unwittingly becomes a hero when he foils a robbery.
